New Brutalism arose from a series of experiments with laboratory crystals. The detritus of these often failed experiments became the material basis for a series of sculptural and photographic compositions. Created from crumbling crystals and rocks, these anonymous sculptures at times reference architectural constructions and geological formations; at other times, they refer to otherworldly ruins. Inspired by Robert Smithson's interest in entropy. the series considered how failure could generate negative entropy, framing disorder as an opportunity for organization and re-emergence.
